Wondering about Joseph of Egypt

I imagine Joseph sometimes lay awake
Wistful or wondering
What might have been
If he’d not fled Potiphar’s wife.

I know “as a man thinketh,” and
Lusting is adultery,
And “our thoughts will condemn us.”
So if Joseph did question his decision,
Maybe he hadn’t fully healed;
His heart still needed godly cleansing.

But “bad men do what good men dream.”
So even if Joseph sometimes wondered … ,
As for me, he met his test.
